Can I add the 5G service to my existing Telkom account?

If you have a Telkom Mobile account then yes. If you have a Telkom Fixed Line account (i.e. landline or ADSL service), then no, as Fixed Line and Mobile are different divisions at Telkom.

Which supporting documents are required if I sign up in my personal (consumer) capacity?

1. Signed application form

3. Copy of latest Telkom bill (Only required for existing Telkom customers)

Can I use a 3rd party for payments?
If you want to sign up for a Telkom Mobile service but would like another party to pay for the service you will need to do the following:

If the 3rd party payer is a consumer: You will need to supply a copy of ID of the person who’s bank account will be paying for the service, as well as a letter from that person giving you authority to use their bank account for the specified Telkom mobile service payment.

If the 3rd party payer is a business: You will need to supply a copy of the company registration document for the company who’s bank account will be paying for the service, as well as a letter from that company (a person who is duly authorized to do so) giving you authority to use their bank account for the specified Telkom mobile service payment.

How do I check my Telkom 5G coverage?

How long does it take for my SIM to be activated

+/- 72 business hours. Once your hardware arrives, your SIM card is not yet active. You need to sign the courier waybill and only after the courier gets back to the depot and scans in the waybill and sends it to the Telkom Mobile back-office, will Telkom activate the SIM. In order to speed this process up we advise clients to take a copy of the courier waybill/delivery form and send it directly to support@dsltelecom.co.za we can push the activation from our side.

Do I need to have a Telkom line in order to get 5G?

No fixed line is needed at all. Telkom 5G is a completely wireless technology.

What happens if I relocate?

Because this is a fixed wireless broadband service, we cannot guarantee network coverage and reliability if you relocate. However should you take it with you when you travel or move, it will work just by plugging it in depending on whether you are still in a 5G coverage zone and subject to a Telkom technician re-installing the router for you.

Delivery & Installation

Where will my 5G be delivered to?

The hardware will be sent directly to the delivery address on the application form.

Who will install my 5G router?

A Telkom technician will be sent to your location to install your router using a pole or bracket and run network cabling indoors for maximum Wi-Fi strength.

How long does the process take once the application has been submitted?

5G applications take 3 - 5 working days, so please ensure you get your paperwork in with the correct supporting documents early.


Top tips to ensure speedy delivery:

1) Make sure any Telkom accounts you may have are paid up (including fixed line accounts on Telkom’s side) otherwise Telkom will not process new applications.

2) Ensure your application form is filled in accurately and legibly and the correct supporting documents are sent.

Does my unused data roll over to the next month?

Yes, unused data does roll over to the next month for 30 days.

Can I top up my 5G data and if so, how?

Top up your data if you run out or add a recurring bolt-on top-up via the Telkom website or mobile app.

How do I monitor my 5G data usage?

If you have a smart phone, download the Telkom Mobile App from the Apple I-store or Google Play store. Within the app you can check your data balances instantly.

You can connect up to 32 wireless devices simultaneously on the Huawei 5G CPE MAX3 White Router.

Cancellations

What if I cancel my 5G package?

Should you cancel the contract early Telkom Mobile will as an early termination fee, recover R850 administration fee and also recover the device subsidy for the remainder of the term of the contract. You will also be liable for the outstanding balance of any other free hardware you have received.

Fair Usage Policy

*Fair usage policy (FUP): Telkom's FUP will be implemented on all 5G packages. Should utilisation reach a percentage of the allowed bandwidth threshold, the speed will be limited to a percentage of the contracted speed. Here is how the FUP would work on each package: 

  • 50Mbps: Up to 500GB of usage, you will be able to access the network at 50Mbps speed. After 500GB, you will be able to access the network at a standard 4Mbps speed. Should you use more than 550GB, Telkom will then reduce the speed to 2Mbps.
  • 100Mbps: Up to 1TB of usage, you will be able to access the network at 20Mbps speed. After 1TB, you will be able to access the network at a standard 4Mbps speed. Should you use more than 1050GB, Telkom will then reduce the speed to 2Mbps.
  • No Speed Limit: Up to 2TB of usage, you will be able to access the network at unlimited Mbps speed. After 2TB, you will be able to access the network at a standard 4Mbps speed. Should you use more than 2050GB, Telkom will then reduce the speed to 2Mbps.

Can I change my 5G package?

Yes you can change your package but the ability to upgrade or downgrade your Telkom 5G package depends on how many months you are in to your contract or commitment period:
