Is there a contract?

Yes. Both business and residential customers are required to sign a 24-month contract for Telkom 5G services. This includes your 5G data, your selected speed, and your 5G-enabled device.
Which supporting documents are required if I sign up?

How do I check my Telkom 5G coverage?

How long does it take for my SIM to be activated

SIM activation is normally completed on the same day of delivery, but can take up to 72 hours. Please do not self-RICA your SIM, as this can cause your service not to sync with your selected package. 

To help speed up this process, we advise clients to take a copy of the courier waybill/delivery form and send it directly to 
support@dsltelecom.co.za Our team can then push the activation from our side.
What happens if I relocate?

Telkom 5G is plug and play service, giving you the flexibility to move while continuing using your existing Telkom 5G service, provided your new address is within Telkom 5G coverage.

How long does the process take once the application has been submitted?

Once your Telkom 5G application is submitted, delivery takes 3–5 working days. To avoid delays, please ensure your paperwork is submitted with the correct supporting documents.

What if I cancel my Telkom 5G package?

Telkom 5G is a 24-month contract. If you cancel, you must provide 30 days’ notice. You will be liable for the remaining costs of your router, which will be calculated pro-rata at the time of cancellation. You will not be liable for the remaining subscription fees on your 5G package. 
What is the Fair Usage Policy (FUP)?

Telkom applies a Fair Usage Policy (FUP) to all 5G packages. When your data usage reaches certain thresholds, your speed may be reduced. Here’s how it works for each package:

40Mbps package:
  • Up to 1TB: full 40Mbps speed
  • After 1TB: speed reduced to 4Mbps
  • Beyond 1050GB: speed further reduced to 2Mbps

70Mbps package:
  • Up to 1.5TB: full 70Mbps speed
  • After 1.5TB: speed reduced to 4Mbps
  • Beyond 1550GB: speed further reduced to 2Mbps

100Mbps package:
  • Up to 2TB: full 100Mbps speed
  • After 2TB: speed reduced to 4Mbps
  • Beyond 2050GB: speed further reduced to 2Mbps

This ensures fair access for all users while still providing high-speed internet up to the FUP limits.


Can I change my 5G package?

Yes, you can change your Telkom 5G package. However, the ability to upgrade or downgrade depends on how many months you are into your contract period.

If you have a Telkom Mobile account then yes. If you have a Telkom Fixed Line account (i.e. landline or ADSL service), then no, as Fixed Line and Mobile are different divisions at Telkom.

Can I use a 3rd party for payments?
If you want to sign up for a Telkom Mobile service but would like another party to pay for the service you will need to do the following:

If the 3rd party payer is a consumer: You will need to supply a copy of ID of the person who’s bank account will be paying for the service, as well as a letter from that person giving you authority to use their bank account for the specified Telkom mobile service payment.

If the 3rd party payer is a business: You will need to supply a copy of the company registration document for the company who’s bank account will be paying for the service, as well as a letter from that company (a person who is duly authorized to do so) giving you authority to use their bank account for the specified Telkom mobile service payment.

How do I check my Telkom 5G coverage?

How long does it take for my SIM to be activated

+/- 72 business hours. Once your hardware arrives, your SIM card is not yet active. You need to sign the courier waybill and only after the courier gets back to the depot and scans in the waybill and sends it to the Telkom Mobile back-office, will Telkom activate the SIM. In order to speed this process up we advise clients to take a copy of the courier waybill/delivery form and send it directly to support@dsltelecom.co.za we can push the activation from our side.

Do I need to have a Telkom line in order to get 5G?

No fixed line is needed at all. Telkom 5G is a completely wireless technology.

What happens if I relocate?

Because this is a fixed wireless broadband service, we cannot guarantee network coverage and reliability if you relocate. However should you take it with you when you travel or move, it will work just by plugging it in depending on whether you are still in a 5G coverage zone and subject to a Telkom technician re-installing the router for you.

Where will my 5G be delivered to?

Your 5G SIM + router will be sent directly to the delivery address on the application form.

How long does the process take once the application has been submitted?

5G applications take 3 - 5 working days, so please ensure you get your paperwork in with the correct supporting documents early.


Top tips to ensure speedy delivery:

1) Make sure any Telkom accounts you may have are paid up (including fixed line accounts on Telkom’s side) otherwise Telkom will not process new applications.

2) Ensure your application form is filled in accurately and legibly and the correct supporting documents are sent.

Yes, unused data does roll over to the next month for 30 days.

How do I monitor my 5G data usage?

If you have a smart phone, download the Telkom Mobile App from the Apple I-store or Google Play store. Within the app you can check your data balances instantly.

Cancellations

What if I cancel my 5G package?

Should you cancel the contract early Telkom Mobile will as an early termination fee, recover R850 administration fee and also recover the device subsidy for the remainder of the term of the contract. You will also be liable for the outstanding balance of any other free hardware you have received.

Fair Usage Policy

*Fair usage policy (FUP): Telkom's FUP will be implemented on all 5G packages. Should utilisation reach a percentage of the allowed bandwidth threshold, the speed will be limited to a percentage of the contracted speed. Here is how the FUP would work on each package: 

  • 40Mbps: Up to 1TB of usage, you will be able to access the network at 40Mbps speed. After 1TB, you will be able to access the network at a standard 4Mbps speed. Should you use more than 1050GB, Telkom will then reduce the speed to 2Mbps.
  • 70Mbps: Up to 1.5TB of usage, you will be able to access the network at 70Mbps speed. After 1.5TB, you will be able to access the network at a standard 4Mbps speed. Should you use more than 1550GB, Telkom will then reduce the speed to 2Mbps.
  • 100Mbps: Up to 2TB of usage, you will be able to access the network at 100Mbps speed. After 2TB, you will be able to access the network at a standard 4Mbps speed. Should you use more than 2050GB, Telkom will then reduce the speed to 2Mbps.
