A low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite travelling around Earth, with the planet's curved surface visible below against the darkness of space.

Real-Time Performance, Anywhere

Q-Kon's LEO satellites orbit closer to Earth and connect through a local South African gateway in Pretoria. Unlike older geostationary satellites, LEO satellites continuously move overhead, which means lower latency and more stable connectivity, even in the most isolated parts of the country.

This makes real-time communication, video calls, streaming and cloud applications smooth and reliable, even on sites kilometres from the nearest fibre or mobile tower

Nationwide Coverage

Q-Kon's LEO satellite service delivers Low-Earth Orbit connectivity through a local South African gateway in Pretoria, with seamless integration to customer networks (NNI Services) at the Teraco Data Centre. Unlike geostationary satellites, LEO satellites move around the Earth, requiring constellations and handoffs between satellites. The lower orbit improves connectivity, bridging the digital divide in areas with limited infrastructure.

Frequently Asked Questions About Vox Q-kon Satellite Internet

FAQ's About Vox Q-kon Satellite Internet

Vox LEO Satellite is a Low-Earth Orbit satellite internet service for South African enterprises, delivered on Q-Kon's Twoobii-LEO platform. The service offers latency as low as 50ms and broadband speeds up to 100Mbps, fast enough for video calls, cloud applications and real-time work in remote locations where fibre and mobile networks don't reach.

Vox Q-Kon LEO Satellite is priced from R8 356.25 per month ex VAT (Connect 250GB) to R40,262.50 per month ex VAT (Access 1,250GB), on a 24-month contract. The service runs on Q-Kon's Twoobii-LEO platform, with Connect (capped) packages ranging from R5,065 to R19,650 per month and Access (uncapped) packages from R8,356.25 to R40,262.50 per month. A once-off installation fee of R14,365 ex VAT applies, plus R3,878 ex VAT for customer premises equipment over the 24-month term.

Vox Q-kon Satellite is available across South Africa. The Q-Kon Twoobii-LEO service has gateway termination at a Pretoria ground station and a Q-Kon Point of Presence at the Teraco data centre. Because LEO satellites move and constantly hand off coverage to one another, the service can be deployed at sites in remote areas where terrestrial infrastructure is limited or unavailable.

Vox Q-Kon Satellite delivers up to 75Mbps download and 15Mbps upload on the OW50 user terminal. Latency is as low as 50ms, comparable to fixed-line broadband, fast enough for VoIP, video conferencing, cloud applications and remote desktop. On Q-Kon's Connect (capped) packages these are assured rates; on Q-Kon's Access (uncapped) packages, they're best-effort under the Fair Use Policy.

Vox Q-kon Satellite is available in both uncapped and capped formats. The Q-Kon Access packages are best-effort, uncapped with a daily Fair Use Policy, speed throttles once your daily allowance is exceeded, but you stay connected. The Q-Kon Connect packages are capped with monthly data bundles from 250GB to 1,000GB; out-of-bundle data is billed in arrears at the prevailing rate, with no FUP and assured speeds all month.

LEO (Low Earth Orbit) and GEO (Geostationary Earth Orbit) satellites differ across four key dimensions:

  • Altitude: LEO 500–1,200km vs GEO 35,786km
  • Latency: LEO 20–50ms vs GEO ~720ms
  • Coverage: LEO uses a moving constellation with satellite handoffs. GEO uses three fixed satellites covering a third of the Earth each.
  • Best for: LEO handles voice, video, cloud and real-time applications. GEO suits broadcasting and fixed internet.

Vox LEO Satellite uses LEO technology via Q-Kon's Twoobii-LEO platform, delivering fibre-comparable performance for enterprise applications.

Vox Q-kon Satellite offers two service models on Q-Kon's Twoobii-LEO platform, at the same underlying speeds:

  • Connect (Capped, from R5,065/month ex VAT): Monthly data bundle (250/500/700/1,000GB), out-of-bundle billing, no Fair Use Policy, assured speeds all month.
  • Access (Uncapped, from R8,356.25/month ex VAT): Best-effort uncapped with daily Fair Use Policy. Available in 250/500/700/1,000/1,250GB tiers.

Both run at 75/15 Mbps on the OW50 terminal, on a 24-month term.

The Fair Use Policy applies to Q-Kon Access packages only. Connect packages have no FUP. Speed is progressively reduced once daily usage reaches 80% of the daily quota, falling to a minimum of 10% if usage hits 200% of the daily allowance. No off-peak free periods apply.

Daily allowances per Q-Kon Access package:

  • 250GB monthly → 8GB daily
  • 500GB monthly → 17GB daily
  • 700GB monthly → 25GB daily
  • 1,000GB monthly → 33GB daily
  • 1,250GB monthly → 42GB daily

Continually excessive usage may result in restrictions or a recommended upgrade.

Vox Q-Kon Satellite installation includes the OW50 user terminal, which delivers up to 75/15 Mbps. Customer premises equipment for the Q-Kon Twoobii-LEO service is R3,878 ex VAT over the 24-month contract term, with a once-off installation fee of R14,365 ex VAT. Lead times are confirmed at order capture, following a site review.

Vox Q-kon Satellite is built specifically for the South African enterprise market via the Q-Kon Twoobii-LEO platform, with three distinguishing features:

  1. Local infrastructure: Q-Kon's gateway termination at a Pretoria ground station and Q-Kon's Twoobii Point of Presence at Teraco data centre. South African traffic stays on South African infrastructure.
  2. Enterprise integration: Network-to-Network Interface (NNI) handover supports direct connection into MPLS, SD-WAN and private cloud networks, instead of routing through the public internet.
  3. Defined service tiers: Two contractual service models (Connect capped and Access uncapped with FUP), locally supported, with the service managed by Q-Kon and sold through Vox.
