How does VoIP work?
VoIP uses IP protocols or data packets to transmit voice signals between users much in the way normal data like an image, video or e-mail gets sent via the web between users.
What is the voice quality like?
Provided you have the correct bandwidth and hardware, the voice quality is superb and is audibly better than even an analogue call.
What last mile options are available?
For the Uncapped 10 and 15 channel services, dedicated last mile (fibre or wireless) into the Vox network is a basic requirement. For all other SIP options you can use your choice of internet connection, however the quality of service received will be determined on the stability of the internet connection you are using.
Can I keep my existing PBX and make use of Vox's Uncapped voice service?
Yes, but in some instances your PBX may require additional equipment.
What internet connection do I need to run Voice over internet?
It depends how heavy an internet user you are and what type of internet connection you have. We have successfully deployed voice over most internet connections that are available. A single user can get away with almost any connection, however as your usage increases, you will need faster internet connections to ensure voice clarity.
How much data is used per minute on Vobi?
0.5MB per minute if using G.729 codec.
How do I check my call usage, charges and settings?
Login to the Vox customer portal to view your account details.
How many concurrent calls can I get with 1 VoIP number?
Call concurrency depends on a combination of the VoIP package selected and the hardware you're using.
What if I need to call an international destination that is blocked by the uncapped calling plan?
Provided that written confirmation is received from the main customer contact, Vox will unblock the destinations and apply a low call charge for calls to those destinations.
Yes, Vobi can be used wherever you have internet access. Please take note that roaming data charges may be applicable, depending on your mobile call plan.
How do I download the Vobi app?
Can I keep my existing number?
Yes, GNP and NNP legislation allows for the porting of geographic numbers (like 011, 021, 031, etc) and non-geographic numbers (0800, 0860, 0861, 087) to registered entities like Vox. The number porting process is seamless. Contact the DSL Telecom Customer Services Team to port your number.
