Finding a genuine tech internship in Somerset West or the broader Helderberg area is harder than it sounds. Most programmes in the region are observation-based, short-term, or disconnected from real business operations. You spend six months watching, filing, and waiting for something meaningful to happen.
The DSL Telecom Internship Programme is built differently. This post explains exactly what the programme involves, what the three roles look like day to day, what you will actually learn, and whether it is the right fit for you.
What Is the DSL Telecom Internship Programme?
The DSL Telecom Internship Programme is a six-month paid internship based at our Somerset West headquarters in the heart of the Helderberg. It is open to students and recent graduates with a diploma or degree in any field, your subject matters less than your attitude, your drive, and your willingness to do real work from day one.
The programme is accessible from across the region. Whether you are based in Somerset West, Strand, Gordon's Bay, Stellenbosch, or commuting from Cape Town, the location works in your favour. More on that shortly.
What Is Zoho and Why Does It Matter for Your Career?
The Three Roles. What You Will Actually Be Doing
This role is for people who want to understand how technology works inside a real business, not just in theory. When something is not working, you will be part of the team that figures out why and fixes it. When a client needs a new integration or workflow built, you will be involved in making it happen.
By the end of six months you will have some technical fluency in Zoho's cloud suite, connectivity and PBX solutions, real experience handling client queries, and a practical understanding of how software drives business operations.
This role suits you if you enjoy finding answers, think logically under pressure, and want a career at the intersection of technology and business.
Sales done properly is one of the most valuable skills in any industry. As a Sales Intern at DSL Telecom you will engage real prospects via calls, emails, and messages from early in the programme. You will support deal progress, learn how to handle objections, process orders, and contribute directly to team targets. You will learn from people who have been doing this for years and who have a direct interest in making you better.
By the end of six months you will have good sales fluency, a strong grasp of how to engage with customers, and the kind of sales awareness that employers value highly.
Customer success is not customer support. Support is reactive, something breaks, you fix it. Customer success is proactive, you work with clients to make sure they are getting genuine value from the technology they have invested in, before problems arise. It requires empathy, commercial awareness, and strong communication skills.
As a Customer Success Intern you will handle real client interactions, manage inbound and outbound communications, and contribute to plans for how businesses can use technology more effectively. You will learn how to clarify needs, deliver researched solutions, and build the kind of relationships that make clients stay.
By the end of six months you will have hands-on experience in client-facing project work, strong interpersonal skills, and a track record that stands out in any future role in tech.
Life at DSL Telecom, What Working in Somerset West Actually Looks Like
DSL Telecom's headquarters is based in Somerset West in the Helderberg, a few minutes from the N2 and easily accessible from Strand, Gordon's Bay, Stellenbosch, and surrounding areas. The office is AAA-grade, well-equipped, and surrounded by amenities. If you are driving from Cape Town, you are heading against peak traffic on most mornings.
The team is 80+ people. You will know everyone, and everyone will know you, including the people making decisions. Feedback is direct, timely, and useful. You will not be waiting for a year-end review to find out how you are doing.
Working in a high-performance team also means you see the whole business. Sales, support, and technical operations are not separate silos here. You will understand how a deal becomes a client, how a client becomes a case study, and how a case study drives the next sale. That cross-functional visibility is something most graduates spend years trying to get.

From Intern to Permanent. Real Stories
Brendon's story is not the exception at DSL Telecom. It is the pattern. Interns who show up, do the work, and prove themselves are regularly offered permanent roles at the end of the programme. Six months in, we already know who you are and what you are capable of. That knowledge works in your favour. That is not a guarantee. But it is a real opportunity and one most graduates never get this early.
How to Apply
Write a real cover letter. Tell us who you are and why DSL Telecom specifically. Specificity beats length every time. Generic applications are easy to spot and easy to set aside.
The experience you build in the next six months shapes the first impression you make for the next six years. The difference is usually one application you did or did not send. This one takes ten minutes.
