80s Flashback: DSL Telecom Lawn Bowls Mid-Year Function 2023

The mid-year function has become an annual tradition for DSL Telecom. Where we combine comradery, teamwork, learning and healthy competition.

This year, we took a step into the past reviving the 80s for a day while taking part in a lawn bowls tournament. The infusion of the 80s spirit, retro décor and iconic music kept us grooving while rolling for glory.

A glimpse into the tournament and highlights

Teams of four were randomly selected through drawing names out of a box. The DSL telecom team members embraced the theme and came up with nostalgic team names like The Bowl and the Beautiful, Retro Rollers, The Breakfast Club and merged 80s inspired outfits to match their team spirit.

The game plan was a knockout format, 12 teams competed in six ends to secure sufficient points to move onto the next round. The six teams with the highest scores continued on to the final knockout phase. The final consisted of two teams who competed to determine the winner.

There was friendly rivalry amongst all teams and great teamwork and collaboration. Successful teams made strategic decisions and their approach allowed them to score critical points and secure the advantage.

The winners and standout moments

First place winners of the lawn bowls tournament were none other than the Breakfast Club team. This team forged their victory through displaying comradery, team spirit and strategic mastery.

Digital Marketing Assistant

We are looking for a zealous Marketing Assistant in the Helderberg area to support the Marketing department of our company in its primary and administrative duties.

Marketing Assistant responsibilities include assisting in organising campaigns and developing marketing strategies. This work will be a critical factor for the smooth operation of the Marketing department and the attainment of its goals, as well as for the long-term growth of the company.

You will need to be able to:

Undertake daily administrative tasks to ensure the functionality and coordination of the department’s activities
Compose and post online content on the company’s website, landing pages and social media accounts
Assist in the organising of promotional events and traditional or digital campaigns and attend them to facilitate their success
Employ marketing analytics techniques to gather important data (social media, web analytics, rankings etc.)
Conduct market research and analyze consumer rating reports/ questionnaires

Marketing Account Manager

We are looking for a qualified Marketing Account Manager in Somerset West to help develop and execute the strategic sales and marketing plans for our customer accounts.

For this position, we expect you to be a tech-savvy professional with an in-depth understanding of how technology can help our customers achieve their business goals. You should be methodical and have excellent time management skills. You should also use your strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with various teams

Serve as the lead point of contact for between key customers and internal teams
Determining client needs by conducting in-person or electronic meetings to outline their digital goals
Conducting market research to find answers about consumer requirements, habits and trends
Brainstorm and develop ideas for creative marketing campaigns
Deploy successful marketing campaigns and own their implementation from ideation to execution
Presenting effective marketing strategies and training to clients when needed
Analysing the effectiveness of digital strategies by tracking metrics such as customer conversion rates and cost-per-click
Writing reports on digital advertising campaign performance on a monthly or weekly basis

Event Recap: DSL Telecom Mid-Year Team Meet-Up

For over 10 years, DSL Telecom has hosted a mid-year team meet-up. Our annual meet-ups are an opportunity to connect with our team members, have fun, create a space for learning and encourage healthy competition.

This year was no different, the name of the game was DSL Telecom's Padel Tennis Tournament. It was our first ever padel tournament, and as you probably expected, it was loaded with all sorts of padel goodness.

So what went down?

Teams were selected at random, so that each DSL Telecom team member would get a chance to play with someone from another department. Teams played head-to-head in round robin style, each round was the best of 12 points. In all of the rounds, beginners were matched up with beginner players and intermediate players were matched up with intermediate players.

Once each team was done playing each other, we had a championship round, with all the teams who had the highest points.

All DSL Telecom employees were on a mission to make the day as fun as possible. They came prepared with team names like Kiss My Ace, The Untouchables and Classy, Bougie, Rackets and some even came dressed in tutus!

The Tournament Winners

All of the teams rose to the challenge. Lots of close games happened throughout the day, and it concluded with a thrilling final where Nick Fresen from the Customer Success Team and Nicholas Pannewitz from our Sales Team won the intermediate league. Gerhard Dempers our Sales Manager and George Heunis from our Sales Team came second overall. Talitha Eloff from Sales Support Team and Paul Wilson, our Technical Director, from the beginners league came in third place. The three winning teams received a trophy and a bottle of wine.

After the winning teams were announced, all DSL Telecom employees enjoyed refreshments from the drinks truck and got the opportunity to talk, connect and laugh about some of the memorable moments on the courts.
